Pattaya is located 140
kilometers (90 miles) south of
Bangkok on the eastern side of the Gulf of Thailand. Thirty years ago
Pattaya was a small fishing village with a population of a couple of hundred
Thai people. Any tourist who happened by had probably made a wrong turn. The
Vietnam war and rapidly growing tourism changed all that. Pattaya is now a
thriving city with some 450,000 locals and an uncountable number of tourists
at any one time. The city has a well deserved reputation as the entertainment capital of Thailand. There are well in excess of 3000 bars where western tourists can discover the allure of Singha Beer and Thai bar girls. Although the beautiful beach at Pattaya has been spoiled by unfettered growth and pollution, just a few kilometers to the south, Jomtien Beach remains relatively clean and unspoiled. Koh Samet is a 30 minute boat trip away from the center of Pattaya and has miles of virgin beaches and is virtually undeveloped. Some effort is now being made to clean up the main beach at Pattaya and with the installation of proper sewage and storm water facilities, rapid progress is being made. There are many activities for tourists in Pattaya. From spectacular scenery, beautiful beaches, elephant shows, beautiful temples, Buddhist shrines, shopping, and cabaret shows to an endless list of eateries, both foreign and local. |

Bangpakong Riverside Country Club - The wide fairways are deceptive, as
the river channels into the layout in many areas, leaving the player to
contend with additional water hazards, tough winds and thick rough on many
holes. Bangpra International Golf Club - Originally built in 1958 the course and facilities were refurbished in 1988 as a joint venture between the Tourism Authority of Thailand and Japan Golf Professional Incorporated. Burapha Golf Club - Burapha Golf Course is a membership golf course with 36 holes. Chonburi Century Country Club - Desmond Muirhead and Nick Faldo had a stunning natural palette from which to create Century. A tropical paradise of rivers, canyons, mountains, lakes and trees, the landscape lends itself perfectly to the Century Club with 18 hole golf course integrated into a well planned community. Crystal Bay Golf Club (Natural Park Resort Golf Club) - The designer has created a very pretty course with beautiful flowers and trees providing a backdrop to every green. Eastern Star Golf Resort - This is a local favorite and plays host to several area competitions. The course can play quite long, particularly from the championship blue tees, where the distance is more than 7,100 yards. |

Great Lake Golf & Country Club - Situated on the magnificent Dok Krai reservoir's banks, the five-year-old Nick Faldo designed Great Lake Golf & Country Club is truly magnificent. Khao Kheow Country Club - On the "Route 36" (halfway between Chonburi and Pattaya) is this picturesque golf course located. Sometimes windy but beautiful along a mountain chain. Mountain Shadow Golf Club (Natural Park Hill Golf Club) - The narrow and undulated fairways are framed by palm trees, so when you start playing a round you understand rapidely that out of fairways you are in trouble. Noble Place Golf Resort and Country Club - Designed by the 'old master' Peter Thomson and Dennis Wolverine, this is a thinking man's course. Pattaya Country Club & Resort - Pattaya Country Club & Resort is a golf course with 18 holes and located in the distance of 25 km from Pattaya. Phoenix Golf & Country Club - Blessed with a wooded, rolling terrain, this coastal course comprises three nines-"Ocean", "Lake" and "Mountain". Plutaluang Royal Thai Navy Golf Course - Built by the Royal Thai Navy and opened in 1968, Plutaluang is a real character course set in some of Thailand's loveliest natural surroundings. Rayong Green Valley Country Club - Located on route three between Sattahip and Rayong near Ban Chang town, this intelligent, beautifully landscaped course is lodged on the side of a hill and thus takes its features from the large rocky outcrops, boulders and native fauna that are featured in the local terrain. Royal Lakeside Golf Club & Resort - Situated at the mouth of the Bangkapong river, the Royal Lakeside Golf Club and Resort Enjoys beautifully refreshing sea breezes and surroundings. Shrubs and flowers surround greens and fairways, some of which run right to the riverbank. Siam Country Club - Siam Country Club is without doubt one of the finest and most difficult courses in Thailand. Set in lovely country in low hills behind Pattaya, the course is well-established and has masses of mature trees and shrubs. Sriracha International Golf Club - Gary Player's contribution to golf in Thailand is a relatively short course set in beautiful countryside. The course does not feature many water hazards and the par-four holes tend to be short, especially from the standard men's tees. St. Andrews 2000 Golf Course - Working with a spectacular, undulating natural topography, St. Andrews 2000 was built to replicate the wind-swept Scottish links courses, offering an uncompromising challenge aimed at players with handicaps of 18 or lower.
